My adoption story!
It was the end of January 2008, and I was locked away in the tiny prison of Petsmart. I shared my cell with my crazy tortoiseshell sister who kept going crazy over the feral flies in room. At that time, I went by the name Dude, and my sister was Daisy. We were in there for what felt like 200 years with endless humans coming and staring at us. We weren't the only inmates at this tiny prison though. There was Toes the gray cat and BeBe the big tabby which were both girls; it was hard being the only guy in there. As the days passed, our numbers dwindled. First to leave was Toes, then my sister and BeBe until I was left all alone. At first it was peaceful, but I grew lonely. I would sniff the catnip while singing "all by myself" that would echo throughout the empty prison. I daydreamed about finding the perfect humans to take me home, but I wondered if this would ever happen. Why did the girls find humans and not me? What was wrong with me?
After that long 200 years, my foster mom came to take me away to give other homeless cats my spot, but then something happened and that's when my life changed forever! The door of the tiny prison opened and two young humans came walking in. Could these be my humans? I asked myself. They began talking to my foster mom about adopting a cat and started talking about me. I was then placed on the female human's lap, and I got so excited that I started to wheeze. I hoped my wheezing didn't turn them off to me. The humans began asking questions and writing on shaved trees. I knew this was a good sign, and then I saw the green presidents being exchanged. The humans then put me into a cat carrying device and walked off with me. I was so happy that I sang all the way to my new home! It has been 8 1/2 years since that day, and I'm happier than ever!
There are many homeless animals in shelters waiting for the perfect family. If you are looking to add a new member to the family, please go to a shelter and not a pet store. Shelter animals are just as cute as those "designer" breeds that they advertise in the stores. Even better yet, the shelter animals know that you saved them! The shelter workers will work with you to find the perfect furry friend that will fit into your family! Adopt don't shop!
